Count the ways

Saturday, June 28, 2008

Thanks for writing in. We will be opening our first restaurant in Canada in mid to late August.

It will open in Toronto and hopefully, it will be the first of many. You can find the exact address at www.chipotle.com under "RESTAURANTS" and locations.

Hope to see you soon!

For a long time now I've been trying to reproduce the mighty Chipotle Vegetarian Burrito in my own kitchen. I have never even come close. So...

Newington or Toronto?

Wee bit overdo

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

The moment you break it off, it seems that everything that comes at you within a twelve step radius is an alarming reminder of that which was broken off. You can try to forget... avoid it; stop hanging at the coffee shop, watching television, listening to the radio, reading the daily paper and blog pop but thanks to conventional conversation, you will most likely hear about it on the bus, around the water cooler and at the bread store. The only chance you have to live in peace is to inhabit some remote part of the rain forest, and even then... you get bombarded by media hounds.

No wonder Adam and Eve started hearing voices.

Last week, thanks to a friend who sent me "The greatest man that ever lived", and the skater sporting the =w= T, and to almost every blog that I read on a weekly basis, I was introduced, by force, to Weezer's red album. I have never really followed their progress. Honestly, I know little of their music save for "Island in the sun" and "Keep fishing". That is what happens when you depend on your friends to bring you some new music because radio is comastasticTM. That was then. Now, all I have to do is LOGIN and music leaks out every tube I stumble upon.

I appreciate humour, especially the kind with a sharp awareness of social trends. Knowing how to laugh at parts of yourself is the best way to keep your head above water. I'm not a music critic so please don't expect a rating. I'm a music lover. I don't mind musicians, but it's not the same. When summer comes around, the love only gets brighter. Maybe misery loves company, but fun follows love around easy. And maybe this summer, fun looks like a skinny moustached 18ish-looking urban cowboy? And maybe this summer, fun sounds like a multiple personality disorder? I've always been attracted to Dark Knights, but who wants to roll under the sun in a tankish ride? Pop open that umbrella kiddo, let's follow the birds.

So that's all I have to say about Red. The three songs I've heard just make me want to fire up the bbq, call some friends and burn some "bananas on a stick", because judging by the cover, and this might be a point, somewhere, friends don't let friends laugh alone.

The Age of Persuasion
Hosted by Terry O'Reilly

Broadcast Date: June 7, 2008

When money runs short- more and more people are turning to advertising to pay the bills. Charities, artists, athletes, even governments and school boards are turning to “corporate partners” - offering advertising exposure in exchange for much-needed money. This week Terry O’Reilly explains how Advertisers became the “sugar daddies” of the 21st Century- and traces “sponsorship” back through the centuries.
