Contre-jour

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

That morning, the park was lit up with a complete sun over a pure blue screen. (((I forgot the camera. I forgot the camera after telling myself last night that I would forget the camera if I did not put it in my bag. I forgot to put it in my bag.))) I wanted you to see it.

This time, camera ready, I got off the bus early to take pictures of today which still looks like yesterday. Before walking to work, I covered a triangular space, trying to catch the bridge in its morning glow. Sometimes you turn your eye to what calls you, sometimes, you turn your eye for no apparent reason but you call it good timing.

When I turned to my shadow, a man was smiling at me, blinded by the light. I returned his smile then returned to the sun. I took a few more photographs as he approached me, praising the sun and my eyes. His were flooded by beauty, alien to me.

He said "Find a place in a shadow. It’s a great way to capture this kind of lighting." I tried this, but it was impossible. At this time, the angle was wrong.

He said "I saw the park and had to stop driving to take a look. I know that you will probably tell me in a minute or two that you must leave and go on your way, but it's nice to take the time..." He spoke about photography projects. He then asked me, indirectly, if I could record him. Perhaps he wanted me to remember.

This is what he said:

"We are taking action, right now. It’s a miracle you and I met."

Wee bit overdo

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

The moment you break it off, it seems that everything that comes at you within a twelve step radius is an alarming reminder of that which was broken off. You can try to forget... avoid it; stop hanging at the coffee shop, watching television, listening to the radio, reading the daily paper and blog pop but thanks to conventional conversation, you will most likely hear about it on the bus, around the water cooler and at the bread store. The only chance you have to live in peace is to inhabit some remote part of the rain forest, and even then... you get bombarded by media hounds.

No wonder Adam and Eve started hearing voices.

Last week, thanks to a friend who sent me "The greatest man that ever lived", and the skater sporting the =w= T, and to almost every blog that I read on a weekly basis, I was introduced, by force, to Weezer's red album. I have never really followed their progress. Honestly, I know little of their music save for "Island in the sun" and "Keep fishing". That is what happens when you depend on your friends to bring you some new music because radio is comastasticTM. That was then. Now, all I have to do is LOGIN and music leaks out every tube I stumble upon.

I appreciate humour, especially the kind with a sharp awareness of social trends. Knowing how to laugh at parts of yourself is the best way to keep your head above water. I'm not a music critic so please don't expect a rating. I'm a music lover. I don't mind musicians, but it's not the same. When summer comes around, the love only gets brighter. Maybe misery loves company, but fun follows love around easy. And maybe this summer, fun looks like a skinny moustached 18ish-looking urban cowboy? And maybe this summer, fun sounds like a multiple personality disorder? I've always been attracted to Dark Knights, but who wants to roll under the sun in a tankish ride? Pop open that umbrella kiddo, let's follow the birds.

So that's all I have to say about Red. The three songs I've heard just make me want to fire up the bbq, call some friends and burn some "bananas on a stick", because judging by the cover, and this might be a point, somewhere, friends don't let friends laugh alone.

Thank you

It can be a coffee, a chair, a candied cricket, or hand picked lilies; being offered something is always nice, it doesn't matter who you are. And this is especially true when the receiver is dragging her feet.

In due time

Sunday, October 22, 2006

...my forgetting could have damaged something that is still very fragile. I often do forget it, how strong one can look and how delicate the ice is around them.

So for all the people who are not me out there, this is for you: HUG.

This post is a hug for everyone who wants it and for all who need it. That is my little part of warmth for you today. Take this hug and carry it with you wherever you decide to walk to today. Transform it into a hand if you want. If you see someone who needs it, hold their hand and smile. It can work wonders. It has healing tendencies. This is a hug for all of those who stood next to me waiting for some time and attention and saw me walk away with a busy crisp jaw. This is a hug for my grandmother that I missed on the week-end due to my cold.

Human contact is a superpower that is in everyone's reach. Offer a hug to your loved ones this holiday season. Write a song about it and sing it while you wrap your arms around someone you care about. Sure this may sound silly to some. And to them, two hugs. And to those who think that that is stupid, three hugs.
