One person in a sea

Wednesday, August 16, 2023

Sight heavy
Lifting
Slow moving
Saving breath
Eyes wishing
Well up
Sea pulling
We're making ground
Boots full of water
Revisiting
Sacred floor
Blue Dreams
Sea pushing
Carousel
Of memories
Anchored boots
Lifting
Slow moving
Saving breath
Eyes filling
Pushing up
Inside the hull
We're making ground
Uncharted
Under the wreck
Weight of the world
Through the gills
Skipper Siren Song
Truest one
Tails down
Above all
Truest sound
Oldest tale
Underground

How to enjoy thorn soup

You must travel far, out of your way
In order to free yourself completely

You must climb over your old friends and enemies

Hitchhike out of tunnel visions
Moonwalk away from culpability

Dive into sinkholes of fears
Fly out of a pit of therapies

Dive into shells of feelings
Fly out of manuals of dreams

You must walk through forests of clichés
Through deserts of being
Breaking chains of denial
For yourself, by yourself

Truth is the broth you offer
Sharing it with stone cold strangers

Trading analogies for beets
Morals for rubber
Dead ends for fish
Heartaches for heat

Thorns always float to the surface
What are trials without garnish?

Smashing Pumpkins

Saturday, October 27, 2012

In a few days the streets of our fair city will be filled with rotten apples and bullets with butterfly wings.

This time of year, when trees are pretty naked, we little humans wrap ourselves up in horrid scenes. It is quite fabulous. Our imagination, running amok, protects us from the cold. Unless you are a sexy nurse zombie.

How common. Ladies, don't be so pink. Grease your costume with some classic cinema styles. Here are ten girls that might do the trick. Heads up! Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo!

Lisbeth Salander

Enid

Jackie Brown

Trinity

Clementine

Annie Wilkes

Mary Poppins

The Swan Queen

Amelie Poulain

Beatrix Kiddo

THE END

Break in case of weakness

Monday, May 21, 2012

Dear Future Ben,

This is Past Ben, writing to you from the darkest recess of your forgetfulness, or what I like to refer to as The Coffin.

If you are reading this, you probably are feeling like shit and are rehashing all the past mistakes of your relationship with Parker. You probably want to get in touch with her again by phone, text, email, through friends of friends, by walking by her house, hiding around her workplace or hiding in someone else’s bushes. Hold that thought, Douchey McDoosh-Douche...

DO NOT CONTACT HER.

How many times have you promised you would leave her alone? And you broke that promise how many times? You fucked it up man. You took the piss. You wrapped yourself in bacon and threw yourself to the pigs.

Remember this if you don’t care to keep anything else in that nut of yours: Every time you fail to keep away you win another karmic hell ring. Of all the bullshit you layered around yourself, one thing was true kid: She, of all people, does not deserve to be in proximity with such a pile of self-wasted energy as yourself. You waste everybody's time pretending to care about anyone else. Despite what your best bud told you, despite what your drinking buddy spat at you, despite what your dope dealer sold you, despite what your DJ repeated, you still acted like a self-serving prick and decided to text her. You freakish fool. Of course she didn't answer. You know why. Then despite your half-ass judgement, you called her while standing in front of her house. All that, you did because you felt like shit and you felt the need to apologize for the 46th time.

DO NOT CONTACT HER.

Don't dial her up. Don't google her. Don't be asking about her at the bar. Don't be searching her tags on Instagram, you asswipe. She deserves so much better than your lame ass excuses and your bloody god awful faux friendship. Dude, you need to keep yourself in check. You know she deserves something amazing. She deserves someone who will love her in all honesty, not constantly stab her in the back with a glass shard.

Hey Future Ben, I of all people know you don't want to be alone right now and you're thinking "Shit man, I need to talk to Parker." but guess what little man... YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE. Her life is taken already and probably promised to some Arabian Prince who rides a fair trade carpet.

If you can't be a man about this, write her a letter. I'm serious. Take a pen and paper and scribble away with all the pestering you would bother her with. Take as much time as you need to get that shit out of your system then put it in an envelope, write her name on it, seal it and slip it under your mattress. Then, take all your precious vinyls and layer them on your bed in alphabetical order. If after this job you still feel the need to talk to her, jump on the bed. If you can do that, if you can swallow the letter you hid under your mattress, if you can still picture yourself talking to her, punch yourself in the face. But whatever you do my dim-witted chum, do not succumb to the weakness.

Her world is no longer in your galaxy, spaceboy. And no matter how many rockets you try to build to reach her, the rings of fire you have collected will never let you get close to her breaking waves.

Last Goodbye

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

It's 1:31 am in the morning and I can't sleep. There is no ball of yarn spinning in my stomach. There is no fan spinning in the back of my mind. There is not even a particle of gun powder around the sparks of my heart to signal some kind of do or die moment in this deserted night. All lights are off.

This is what it feels like to live in your shadow. Through all the familiar roads and the once sweet smells of breakfast I waste with every fresh step of regrets. There is no world without Verona walls. There is no north to guide me home. There is no biting cold to signal some kind of do or die moment in this aimless mind.

Walking from nothing to less than nothing, I am crushed by all these books on my back. I carry dictionaries of apologies everywhere I go, to make right by you if given the chance. The twelfth and final chance to prove how sorry I am. I was a dusty picture on a wall. I was the rust in the braids of your crown. You will always be the golden heart wrapped in the body of a simple girl and I, a miner wrapped in explosives lines. Not one word will bring you near. I am dust now. You are a tear I keep in the freezer. You’re forever free, rocked by the wild waves of an ocean of pearls, the way you've always wanted to be.

We are the www

Tuesday, August 02, 2011

Being beautiful does not grant you magnetism. Popularity does not grant you respect. But money can buy you a ticket on a smooth-rolling glory train into the blinding brilliant domain of status pro, eclipsing magnetism and respect out of the equation. The opposite is also true. Being a pro at consuming thirty-three hotdogs in five minutes can possibly grant you some kind of gravy train pass. And that’s cool for anyone who wants to be in the centre of a circle of friends to feed upon.

Mark Zukerburg based his "Hot Or Ugly" venture on the exploitation of gaps in network security. Much like a virus wears down the healthy cells of a body, like a hand in a glove, sand through the hourglass. As a natural course in his pectoral swelling, he built Facebook by exploiting the cracks in social interdependency. Providing that all classes of human flesh would be willing to invest their time (academic, artistic, professional, et al) in the half empty glass, the structure he would build would emerge from the world wide web as the link between real world associations and the comfort and ease of the personal desktop communications. In order to make “friends”, Zukerburg redefined phonebook searches to the simplest form: Like, Share, and Status.

What people reach for, what they hope to grasp through the web is their own business. You are the business: reseller, distributor, consumer and most of all, the product. The content you put forth and what you pull in is what is counted in hits. Who are you? Opinions? Art? Lists? Cracks? Any page you populate with tidbits be it on Wordpress, Huffington Post or, god forbid, MSN space, is what internet users guzzle, day in and day out. We sit in front of this screen and load information, then filter and sort through it in order to get the loot, the booty, the score, which is all user-defined and transitory.

PEARL SCRIPT

For now, let’s be friends, silently and disjointedly. I’m not looking to meet people on my way to the market. I want my friends to be available when I am ready to log into the relationship. I want my relationships to be neatly organised in groups by function. I want every group to have different levels of access to my real life. If I wanted to walk around with a sign defining any part of my personal life, I would be a roadside attraction. I think some information should be kept in a triangulated vault and have a minimum of code breakers aware of its existence.

“Excuse-us for inviting you in.”

Why would anyone want to offer, for free, a breadcrumb of personal data to the hitchhikers of the information highway? I imagine it is to sell a swell version of themselves. The one with the good side or the one highly developed side, such as a pro member, a bionic arm. Nobody puts up a profile to announce “I watch poorly recorded videos of big breasted women ten hours a day” or uploads pictures of their acne covered mug because all that does is reveal a chink in somebody's armour. If you don’t have talent, a voice or oversized limbs you better know how to share the hell out of the best of the net. Being a crème de la crème reporter of the LOL URLs will quickly duplicate your name across the web as a reference of all things trending. You will become the trend.

If you can’t do that, how will you ever make friends on the internet? If you don’t have friends on the internet, how will you interact with others? Who will care about your Old Spice vegetable puppet parody then?

FYI

Monday, December 06, 2010

When it comes to sharing, the best gift one can give another is knowledge. How knowledge is used is another story.

Wot knowledge? Wot do you want to know?

Well, for starters:
What’s on your mind?
What’s happening?
What are you doing?

It shouldn’t be news that if you are part of an online community or simply carry a cell phone, you are now part of the media. Of course, not everything brought forth by the media is truth. If Exxon announces that it cares for you and wants to Make You Whole, you won’t doubt the source/hole of this line. Moreover, not everything announced in public is relevant or engaging. Basically, give an inch and a mile will be taken. When meeting a friend on a street some of you could ask “How are you?” none of you would ask “Is Tumblr still online?” unless you’re Julia Segal. Your friend would most likely answer “Not bad, you?” not “TUMBLR DOWN TUMBLR DOWN!” unless you’re Mark Slutsky.

So why add all this superficial information to your online personality? Are you craving attention? Are you showing off your forwarding (share, retweet) abilities? Are you climbing the trending mill with your opinionated genius? Are you lonesome tonight? Need a stalker tonight? Most likely, the answer is: Movement keeps us alive. The general feeling is, as long as something is happening, as long as a force manifests itself, as long as there is smoke, there is fire. Basically, showing your pulse is proof you’re still in the game. There isn’t a medal or any kind of reward system in this game but as long as there is a future to look forward to, they will come. Tomorrow. Tomorrow...

So we furnish our accounts with every little bit of info that we deem interesting about ourselves, thinking somebody somewhere will care. Yes, someone will care that I am at the worst coffee shop in Montreal, that I liked this bacon video, that I want a ticket to get into The Besnard Lakes concert and that I am wearing three pairs of socks. Care a little, won’t you? You might be surprised, somebody will. You know that person at work who offers you half of his vegan bacon cupcake every morning, the one that you always decline politely? Well guess what? He loves it when you Tweet about what show you are attending tonight! Sure, you might not know it, but he’s keeping tabs. Even after you made your account Private he left his MeatCake profile behind and was reborn under the BrightBaconBeacon username.

Not only is knowledge a source but it is also a versatile tool. You are a part of the web statistics.  Wether you like it or not. Ok, you think you are just using words to make up funny phrases for your friends. Well. The words you enter in the Machine are calculated and then you are Marked. Hello personalized ads. You are then compared and rated through similarities. I’m sure you are quite unique though. Don’t worry. Knowledge can be an Axe to your garden hose or a Hammer to your two-by-four. If you discovered a goldmine, would you tell everyone about it? The same logic applies to anything else, material or not, that you hold dear.

The diver that discovered an underwater shark tunnel regretted the day he shared this discovery with others. Since then, not only has the tunnel been populated with more divers than sharks, but now Hunters also float over the once secret site.

Before you bring to light any kind of information, consider how this information could be exploited by others. I am not saying to conceal or negate what makes your life rich and unique. I’m saying: protect yourself and your support system. Is it safe to tell the world that you are leaving for Mexico for three weeks? Is it wise to give your cell number to your friend on Twitter? I would say: no.

...with strong Muslim beliefs.

Friday, November 06, 2009

In response to the story and interviews televised on CTV news on friday november 6th regarding the Fort Hood tragedy:

Investigators probing the deadliest-ever mass killing at a U.S. military base were attempting Friday to find out what motivated the massacre, which was allegedly perpetrated by an army psychiatrist with strong Muslim beliefs.

Why is this massacre viewed under the religious dome?

If this killer was not of Muslim faith, would the reporters have mentioned his religious beliefs?

Would they have visited his church and interviewed his brethren?

Was it necessary to inform the nation of the traditional clothing worn by the killer a few hours earlier when he was buying coffee?

What knowledge is necessary in order to fill proper disdain for one particular person?

What knowledge is necessary in order to be emotionally involved in a tragedy?

Stay tuned!

Love a Sunflower

Thursday, October 16, 2008

After last nights political math, I’ve been trying to speak out about how it has affected me but it comes out rather crookedly.

The man wants fatter meat in less time. He wants to trademark our seeds. He wants to regulate love with papers. Control knowledge with borders. Monitor movement with webs. And it seems fine with the majority. It’s monopoly.

And I am not much of a leader. There is no place to go. All is owned.

Am I?

I am so scared of the bleak future that I feel I should find my way into politics today, so I can stand up for something come next election day.

Religion is built upon belief.

Belief is built upon?

Anything.

Aliens.
Insects.
Animals.
Stars.
Deities.
Tea leaves.
Books.
Television.
Fashion.
Medication.
Dreams...

Pick a card, any card.

Ah, I see you picked the wild card, the blank card of desire.
What do you think this means?
